I’d like to talk to you about this very interesting Dutch denim brand, KUYICHI, which is making 100% organic denim clothes.
The founders have a very interesting journey that inspired them to launch this brand back in 2001: they were exploring the cotton industry in Peru and were shocked by the pollution and the poverty they saw so they started collaborating with local cotton farmers and producing fair and organic cotton without the use of toxic chemicals.
Denim industry is one of the biggest polluters and this company acts as as a changemaker with the genuine intent to fix the fashion system. It is not an individual battle, to win over fast fashion we need a collective movement of retailers/brands/suppliers onboarded with the common goal to fight fast fashion.
Kuyichi also believes in transparency so they keep being open and disclosing the list of their suppliers and this is the ground to create a sustainable journey since it is mandatory to know where your products are produced and trace them to be able to improve and fix the manufacturing process.
