Handmade fashion accessories

Hello! I’d like to introduce this Italian brand, Cingomma, producing accessories such as belts, bags and wallets which are very unique and innovative!

The idea behind Cingomma is that they rely on local artisans repurposing bicycle tyres and tubes to create these handmade fashion accessories.

One really peculiar aspect is their way to approach the e-commerce business: basically when they took the decision to launch the e-shop they also decided NOT accept online purchases if there is a physical store within your area and they are going to cancel your online order if you cheat 🙂

Reason behind it is that they care for their local staff and they want to protect the people working in the retail chain that would otherwise be affected and I would add perhaps cannibalized by the online growth, so kudos for that!

The idea of the founder has been to create products from repurposing bicycle tyres and tubes. They retrieve this material from the many bike repair shops located all over Italy and is a win-win situation since these material would have been dumped to landfills and contributed to generating pollution.

Have a look at their range of unique products they are also super cool, my favorite item is the backpack made entirely from recycled inner tubes perfect to carry my laptop to the office!

Hope you get inspired, for similar content please follow my blog and my social media accounts, thanks so much!

Vegan & cruelty-free outerwear brand!

Hello!

Are you interested in hearing of a slow fashion brand for outerwear? Well, I have found out a very good for you, culthread.

Culthread is a female founded brand that has to make quality coats and lifestyle products that you will want to wear for long time.

They produce Vegan outerwear and claim to be 100% animal-cruelty free and PETA approved brand.

Looking at their collection online you can quickly realize how easy is to look trendy and be good with the environment and society!

They mostly use 100% recycled polyester to produce the garment and they also reuse what is called deadstock fabric which is the leftover from orders made by other big brands not fullfilled. Another material used to source their manufacturing is  Thermore Ecodown which is a fiber used for insulation in outerwear products and it is amazing how sustainable is and why?

Beacuse Ecodown has traditionally been the sustainable alternative to down feathers. Now Thermore takes the next step towards sustainability by converting the Ecodown product line to fully recycled content, derived exclusively from PET water bottles. The new Ecodown is the only durable thermal insulation product in the market to be made from 100%, post-consumer plastic bottles.

This allows the reuse of a considerable number of bottles, which would have otherwise ended their useful life as waste in a landfill. Depending on the application, outerwear insulated with Ecodown can save up to 10 bottles per garment, does this not sound amazing to you?

Hope you get inspired, personally I am in love with the Artesian jacket in the gallery below! Do not forget to follow my blog for more content on sustainable brands, thanks so much 🙂

Swedish sustainable shoes

Hello!

To brighten up your mood in this winter Sunday, check this Swedish sustainable brand for shoes, Blankens!

This brand has been founded in 2014 and it has been embarked since day1 in a journey towards sustainability. Here their underlying principles:

  1. Production chain should be in proximity: in this way they can reduce the negative impact of shipping elements of production and that is why all manufacturing is entirely made in North of Portugal.

2. Materials sustainability and traceability: all the leather is sourced in Italy and Spain, and the brand is in the process of replacing it with more sustainable materials, such as vegetally tanned leathers, eco-leathers, and alternative materials made from recycled plastic.

3. Create products that are supposed to last by combining nice design with good quality.

If you visit the e-shop you can quickly realize that prices are affordable, and the shoes are really stylish in my opinion and durable too, hope you get inspired for your shopping!

Conscious & ethical fashion brand!

Hello! I am back to write the first post of the year 2021 🙂

In my research I have come across this sustainable brand, Progetto Quid, that produces limited-edition collections of clothes and accessories.

Like other sustainable brands I am recommending in this blog, Quid recovers otherwise wasted high-quality textiles from luxury or well established fashion brands and then these fabrics are manipulated to give new life to garments by people, mostly women, with a vulnerable past.

What strikes me from the online collection is the prices affordability, I was amazed to see unique pieces like dresses for less than 50 euro! In fairness shipping cost are still quite expensive if you live outside Italy but that is expected as these companies still do not deal with huge amounts of orders.

Have a look at their fabulous garments I am sure you’ll find something worth buying! Follow me on Instagram or Facebook to stay up to date with the content I am posting, thanks so much!!!

Sustainable bags made in IT

Hello! I think you should discover this brand, āim, that produces sustainable handbags, made in Italy.

The angle that this company is taking to tackle sustainability is to focus on leather overproduction and take the overstock of leather already produced to make new products without increasing the demand and reusing a resource that has been already put in circle and should be anyways managed from the waste process perspective generating pollution as a result of it.

Another fundamental pillar of sustanaibility that āim has in their mission is to produce collections of items supposed to last for long time, fighting the concept of fast fashion whereby every item is quickly replaced by a newer and trendier one, just launched in the market!

They also believe being sustainable is a journey, and they have future plans to start using alternative materials to produce their collections.

Their collection is quite minimal at the moment, they offer 2 models of handbags Olivia and Sofia which come in different colors.

The ordering process does not seem fully automated at least as I am writing this post and a pre-order process has been rolled out perhaps as a way to face issues related to the COVID pandemic: currently you have to send an email with the request to buy a specific model and color and then the team will contact you to further process the query.

In the website they do not mention the price of the bags, which possibly is something to improve as it is a sign of transparency that is always appreciated by consumers, however you can find the price in the additional information on their Instagram profile! I can tell you these handbags are not cheap but affordable and it is important to always keep in mind that sustainability never goes hand in hand with low costs, simply because if you do not pay much for an item in fashion it means most likely someone else in the production and manufacturing chain has been not fairly treated!

Hope you get inspired to invest in a good sustainable handbag soon!

Circular fashion made in IT!

Hello!

This emerging Italian brand, Rifo is very interesting to follow why? because they produce ethical and sustainable clothing made with recycled and recyclable fiber.  Their mission is to believe in a future where there is no longer need to produce virgin resources, but we can use existing ones and this concept is nicely summarized in their brand name, which is a dialect expression in Tuscany which means “remake”.

Rifo wants to restore an emotional connection with our clothes by recycling as much textile waste as possible. Rifo makes men and women’s clothes, blankets and accessories through upcycling textile fibres. The circular fashion brand processes old cashmere, denim, lace and cotton into new yarns of fabric.

Rifo’ is also concerned about overproduction of garments which leads to waste and pollution and they have found their way to embrace a slower pace in fashion: they always start with a presale before launching a new circular garment, blanket or accessory so that they can study the market and their customers to avoid overstock and better balance production based on the actual demand.

Moreover Rifo’ produces all its products within 30 km of their office in Prato, Italy. Not only this allows them to support the local economy and create new jobs, but it also reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gases.

You can buy online and shipping is supported worldwide, hope you get inspired for your purchase of recycled quality clothes!

Cactus leather shoes

Hello! If you are looking for shoes made with Cactus leather, you should try the collection from Carmona.

This footwear Mexican brand is founded by 3 sisters based in León Guanajuato, where making shoes is a tradition since generations.

These ladies have decided starting day one to join the ecological revolution, integrating sustainable and innovative materials into their products designs.

The leather they use in the creation of footwear is a soft, sustainable and partially organic product that replaces the use of animal leather and synthetics that harm the environment. Moreover all the materials are locally sourced in Mexico but also carefully hand made by local expert artisans with great care and attention!

Shipping is worldwide however it is relatively straightforward if you live in US or Canada (actually free within Mexico) but if you are based somewhere else you would need to drop them a message to get to know shipping accurate costs and estimated timelines.

My favorite piece of the collection is the pair of vegan combat boots, perfect combination with long skirts and different type of stockings to wear during cold season just ahead of us in Europe!

Hope you get inspired for your next shopping of vegan shoes, take care!

A bunch of old water bottles never looked so good!

Hello!

I am going to talk about this brand, Girlfriend, which is an ethical and size-inclusive activewear brand, with amazing products at affordable prices!

Being eco-friendly is at the top of this brand priorities, and basically all their collection is made by recycled materials such as recycled post-consumer bottles to create bras and compressive leggings, but also recycled fishing nets and other waste are utilized to make Lite leggings, while tees and tanks are 100% cupro, a delicate fiber made from waste the cotton industry leaves behind.

Not to mention that also packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable, which is cool!

When it comes to traceability and social impact the company states that textiles are made from recycled materials in a facility in Taiwan that specializes in eco-friendly and high-quality textiles, then cut-and-sewn in another SA8000 certified factory in Hanoi, Vietnam, that guarantees fair wages, safe and healthy conditions, and zero forced or child labor.

Another big plus is the size inclusivity that this brand offers, you can buy products from XXS to 6XL so really covering all different bodies and sizes so we can all feel included! I will definitely buy something, the ‘Compressive’ styles actually caught my eye, hope you get inspired too!

100% organic denim brand

Hello!

I’d like to talk to you about this very interesting Dutch denim brand, KUYICHI, which is making 100% organic denim clothes.

The founders have a very interesting journey that inspired them to launch this brand back in 2001: they were exploring the cotton industry in Peru and were shocked by the pollution and the poverty they saw so they started collaborating with local cotton farmers and producing fair and organic cotton without the use of toxic chemicals.

Denim industry is one of the biggest polluters and this company acts as as a changemaker with the genuine intent to fix the fashion system. It is not an individual battle, to win over fast fashion we need a collective movement of retailers/brands/suppliers onboarded with the common goal to fight fast fashion.

Kuyichi also believes in transparency so they keep being open and disclosing the list of their suppliers and this is the ground to create a sustainable journey since it is mandatory to know where your products are produced and trace them to be able to improve and fix the manufacturing process.

Hope you get inspired to buy your denim clothes made to last! If you like my content please follow me on my social media accounts, thanks so much!

Dress made to measure

Hello!

Thanks to the amazing connections and communities that you can build online, I came across the profile of this super inspirational woman, Betty, and her amazing business, named Betty Concept.

Betty’s idea is to create dresses, made to measure, for every occasions that also empower each woman to express her mood and personality. The idea behind is that the sizes should adapt to the real bodies of women not viceversa!

If you have a look at her dress collection, you can quickly understand that the style she proposes is unique, totally hand-made and sustainable so that you can keep the garment and wear it for long time. It is not a seasonable or some sort of standardized item, quite the opposite: every dress has its own personality!

How does it work? You select the dress you like and choose the color plus specify other things such as the type of sleeves or the lenght, then there is no need for you to pick a size, you place the order right away and when that’s done you’ll be contacted by Betty or her team to take some measurements (most of the time this process is done online via uploading pictures).

The website is in Italian only, but I have seen that Betty ships in many countries so I guess language should not be a barrier to choose the right dress for you and buy it , however if you live in Italy or have the chance to visit the country (when this pandemic will be over) you should definitely pop over to her atelier in Brescia to experience to try on more dresses and get also a personalized consultation.

Personally, I will give it a go with an online personalized consultation, hope you get inspired for your next dress purchase!
