Handmade fashion accessories

Hello! I’d like to introduce this Italian brand, Cingomma, producing accessories such as belts, bags and wallets which are very unique and innovative!

The idea behind Cingomma is that they rely on local artisans repurposing bicycle tyres and tubes to create these handmade fashion accessories.

One really peculiar aspect is their way to approach the e-commerce business: basically when they took the decision to launch the e-shop they also decided NOT accept online purchases if there is a physical store within your area and they are going to cancel your online order if you cheat 🙂

Reason behind it is that they care for their local staff and they want to protect the people working in the retail chain that would otherwise be affected and I would add perhaps cannibalized by the online growth, so kudos for that!

The idea of the founder has been to create products from repurposing bicycle tyres and tubes. They retrieve this material from the many bike repair shops located all over Italy and is a win-win situation since these material would have been dumped to landfills and contributed to generating pollution.

Have a look at their range of unique products they are also super cool, my favorite item is the backpack made entirely from recycled inner tubes perfect to carry my laptop to the office!

Hope you get inspired, for similar content please follow my blog and my social media accounts, thanks so much!

Cactus leather shoes

Hello! If you are looking for shoes made with Cactus leather, you should try the collection from Carmona.

This footwear Mexican brand is founded by 3 sisters based in León Guanajuato, where making shoes is a tradition since generations.

These ladies have decided starting day one to join the ecological revolution, integrating sustainable and innovative materials into their products designs.

The leather they use in the creation of footwear is a soft, sustainable and partially organic product that replaces the use of animal leather and synthetics that harm the environment. Moreover all the materials are locally sourced in Mexico but also carefully hand made by local expert artisans with great care and attention!

Shipping is worldwide however it is relatively straightforward if you live in US or Canada (actually free within Mexico) but if you are based somewhere else you would need to drop them a message to get to know shipping accurate costs and estimated timelines.

My favorite piece of the collection is the pair of vegan combat boots, perfect combination with long skirts and different type of stockings to wear during cold season just ahead of us in Europe!

Hope you get inspired for your next shopping of vegan shoes, take care!

A bunch of old water bottles never looked so good!

Hello!

I am going to talk about this brand, Girlfriend, which is an ethical and size-inclusive activewear brand, with amazing products at affordable prices!

Being eco-friendly is at the top of this brand priorities, and basically all their collection is made by recycled materials such as recycled post-consumer bottles to create bras and compressive leggings, but also recycled fishing nets and other waste are utilized to make Lite leggings, while tees and tanks are 100% cupro, a delicate fiber made from waste the cotton industry leaves behind.

Not to mention that also packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable, which is cool!

When it comes to traceability and social impact the company states that textiles are made from recycled materials in a facility in Taiwan that specializes in eco-friendly and high-quality textiles, then cut-and-sewn in another SA8000 certified factory in Hanoi, Vietnam, that guarantees fair wages, safe and healthy conditions, and zero forced or child labor.

Another big plus is the size inclusivity that this brand offers, you can buy products from XXS to 6XL so really covering all different bodies and sizes so we can all feel included! I will definitely buy something, the ‘Compressive’ styles actually caught my eye, hope you get inspired too!

Sustainable scarves and knitwear for your foliage pics!

Hello!

How many of you enjoy doing “foliage” strolling around your cities and take pics to capture the beauty of nature in Autumn? I am in 🙂

For sure, if you aim to look amazing in your foliage selfies you want to wear warm, cozy garments but again you should ensure they are also fair and sustainable products!

That’s why today I am talking about this German brand, Armedangels, that seems seriously involved in fashion sustainability.

If you follow my blog, I guess you are familiar with the high-level principles to be considered a fair and sustainable brand, what is interesting to mention for each brand is how they decide to implement these principles which also differentiate each label and create uniqueness in the market.

  1. Armedangels use sustainable, environmentally friendly & circular materials such as organic cotton, recycled & circular cotton, recycled & circular pure new wool (that’s why they are NOT a vegan brand), natural alpaca wool and regenerated fibers

2. They ensure to minimize environmental impact in all phases of production:

  • 100% free of harmful chemicals
  • 100% sustainable production facilities
  • 100% traceable – from the raw material to the finished textile product

3. They treat their workers fairly and this is guaranteed by independent org such as Fair Ware foundation!

Have a look at their e-shop and get inspired for your warm and cozy looking outfits! Personally I love their collection of alpaca styles, check this out!

Eco-friendly revolutionary socks!

Hello guys! I came across this product that I find super cool and innovative and as such it deserves to be shared with a broader audience 🙂

I am talking about the socks invented and sold by Skinners!

Skinners founders are a girl an a guy from Czech Republic and the idea of making this product unraveled under a summer night sky in Norway when the first prototype was conceived and it skyrocketed with the help of almost 10.000 customers on Kickstarter in 2016. The team behind Skinners developed and patented the fusion technology that merges the best features of shoes and socks into one compact product, the idea behind is that this “revolutionary” product is a hybrid between a sock and a shoe and it actually combines the best of both worlds, such as the freedom of a sock and the protection of a shoe to be able to use it for a variety of activities both outdoor and indoor ranging from running to do a yoga class!

The product is already in the market since few years and if you read the customer reviews they are on average quite high, and worth to mention that they are also worn by footballers in Kuwait, and the Boston baseball club Red Sox!

Lastly, I’ll talk about the eco-friendly aspect of this product, which is what actually I care about the most in my blog 🙂 the founders are stating that they don’t use any toxic plasticizer and production waste is minimized below 1% so it seems this production does not contribute to harm the environment!

Hope you get inspired, if you like my content please follow me on my social media accounts, thanks!

Loungewear sustainable brand

Hello! I came across this brand, ThokkThokk, a German sustainable fashion label, and I think it is worth keeping it in the radar for your next purchase of loungewear.

They got GOTS certified in 2014, which means the garments they produce contain at least 70% of organic fibers (actually there are 2 levels of GOTS certification: to get the label grade ‘organic’ products must contain a minimum of 95% certified organic fibers whereas a product with the label grade ‘made with organic’ must contain a minimum of 70% certified organic fibers).

They claim to use eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton, tencel and recycled plastic so they make an effort to reduce climate impact and limit the amount of chemicals, water and wastewater used in production.

Another thing on the positive side is that they seem to care a lot about traceability: in their website you can find information on where their manufacturer are based and what part of the production process are they taking care of.

There is also an highlighted commitment to actively fight child labor: they have an ongoing collaboration with Indian NGO SAVE, with the mission to combating child labor in the textile industry and promoting the rights of women and workers. SAVE stands for Social Awareness and Voluntary Education. The 121-member organization together with over 600 volunteers for the rights of women and workers and the prevention of child labor in the Indian textile industry.

Overall I guess deserves the attention of a buyer who is sensitive to ethical fashion. Their online shop is available in German and English and they ship worldwide, for sure I will give it a try!

Hope you like my post, feel free to get in touch for suggestions or feedback!

Thanks!

Sustainable sneakers that do good!

Hello!

I have come across another interesting company producing sustainable and recyclable sneakers,
100% Made in Italy, called WOMSH, which stands for Word of Mouth Shoes to promote the idea that the products they make can spread the message of respect for the environment.

Sustainability as I go along and dig into it, it is a journey rather than a milestone itself: this brand keeps improving its products to become more sustainable incrementally let’s say: they use recycled material for the upper part of the shoe, such as appleskin, material originated from plastic bottles and recycled cotton. So most of the shoe components are actually made with recycled materials with the exception for the soles which can trigger the recycle process after they are gone by being collected and repurposed to create other items, in this specific example to produce the flooring for children playgrounds, and back in 2018 already 1500 pair of sneakers were already being recycled in this way.

WOMSH does also good for the planet as they participate to the Zero Impact initiative promoted by Lifegate which aims to calculate, reduce and offset CO2 emissions generated as part of the manufacturing process.

They support worldwide shipping and their collections looks pretty good to me, it is a good opportunity to buy sneakers made with good sustainability practices.

You can also visit this post to know another good brand for sustainable sneakers,https://closetila.com/2020/07/24/sustainable-sneakers/!

Hope you enjoy my content, if so please feel free to reach out on Instagram or Facebook, I’d love to hear feedback and comments!

Eco-friendly shoes to buy

Hello! If you are looking to buy sneakers shoes that are eco-friendly you should definitely take a look at this brand, ACBC.

ACBC, which stands for anything can be changed, is a pioneer in creating modular shoes that are also minimizing the impact on the environment by reducing a lot the CO2 emissions as part of their manufacturing process.

This Italian startup has created a modular concept where each shoes setup consists of one pair of the rubber soles, along with multiple sets of fabric uppers known as “skins.”

The beauty is that these two components simply zip together, so you can quickly swap one style of skin for another, depending on the mood of the day!

The different skins are made of bio-based materials derived from grapes, corn and pineapple among others, resulting in products which are claimed to be strong and breathable.

Recycling and circularity are also part of this company mission: for instance once the skins get worn out, their plastic zippers are cut off by the user, and they can be disposed for recycling purposes. In terms of circularity, once those soles wear out, users ship them back to ACBC stores, where they’re ground up and used in shock-absorbing flooring sheets used in children’s playgrounds!

As you can see in their e-shop, they provide both woman and man collections and the range of prices is moderate to expensive. On the costs topic, I have noticed that the shipping fee for EU country outside Italy is still quite high, 18 euro, but I am sure it will come down once the volume of sales orders will increase.

If you want to be green and still buy shoes which are nice and practical for many different purposes I think you should consider this brand.
